working on it

working on the new apartment every day-it's such a fun process to make a home feel cozy and safe.
here's some pictures of my work in progress

I wanted a very vintage inspired couch, and I was able to find this one on sale at urban outfitters. I love it! It is very small-perfect for a New York apartment, but really comfortable. It also folds out into a bed, which helps a lot when visitors come through town :) It's hard to see clearly here, but it is in fact green!

I am a huge collector of all kinds of artwork. I found this Brooklyn print, and then ended up taking an old window and making it into the frame. Everyone who comes over immediately loves this print-how could you not?

my favorite print sits by the door-it is the motto of my home

one thing that can transform any apartment is what I call "moments"
I don't have much space so I use little corners to make mine-here is my "mail moment" ha
I got the mail plate from Kate Spade and the lamp is Anthropologie-also as a general rule of thumb I always have fresh flowers inside. It brightens up the entire room.

I also included a Audrey moment in my bedroom...

I kept the kitchen pretty simple-all I really do is switch the tea towels out from time to time. I also like to personalize the fridge with polaroids-sometimes apartments can come off very cold because there are only so many ways you can personalize. It's important to utilize every opportunity.

a calendar was needed to keep track of when bills are due and when roommates are out of town-I found this one at paper source and I love it! It really brightens up the room, and the gold hardware helps things to not look so thrown together.
the smallest details always seem to make the biggest difference

my biggest obsession by far is RUGS. I could buy them all day-they truly warm up and change the space in an instant. I've had this one since I moved to New York-I love it in my bedroom to add in color. It sits under my vanity and bed.

Did I say vanity? More like make shift vanity-I have to be really creative to meet all my needs in this space-I double use a dresser as a vanity, and I keep makeup and personal items on floating shelves.

I use antlers to hold Elvis' leash and collars. They work perfectly and again add a little more color to the room.

last stop on the tour is my room!

The fire escape makes Elvis very nervous-this is his mom get inside now face.

and that's all I have so far! for rooms that inspire me you can check out my pinterest page!

having a weird day?

LOOK AT MY PUPPY FALLING ASLEEP

as a die hard cat person...I must say my love for this dog is ridiculous. He is the best you guys! Just look at those huge paws if you don't believe me.
Today I have the day off so we are spending it together :) We are going to watch Ryan Gosling movies, organize my calendar, try to learn some new impressive tricks, who knows, maybe a nice long night walk to cap it off-happy weekending friends!

waiting for spring

in the meantime-River Phoenix movies all night every night when insomnia pursues and the wind is howling outside my window.

It's hard to describe how much his performances matter to me and to most young actors. His light is so bright in each piece-I decided to watch Stand by Me the other night on a whim, and since then I've watched them all again. He's still one of my favorite people in the whole world. I highly encourage popping in "Running on Empty" this week! It's amazing, and sort of knocks you out in the best way possible.

so yeah cheers to you River! still missing you

also Seth Avett and Jessica Lea Mayfield released an album of  Elliott Smith covers and it is gooooodddd.

what do you do when it's the middle of the March and it's still cold out?

monday morning

I was having a hard day today, then I saw a girl (early thirties-ish) reading Alice in Wonderland on the train. I just thought that was amazing--even better I made a note of it in my phone to remember something good today and accidentally typed out "alive in wonderland". I love that. I've decided it's the title for this time of my life.

also

you should be at Cinderella right this second. It is incredible.

and the Oscar goes to...

The Academy Awards are basically my own personal superbowl. I get very into it, offering up many... strong opinions. What I'm telling you is-it gets real y'all and this year was no exception. I saw everything nominated!!
except "Still Alice" (missed it at the theatre-hoping to rent soon)
"The Imitation Game" (sorry heard it was boring)
"Foxcatcher" (dying to see this!!).
Again though, I saw everything else!!

just to be a real pain-here are some of my complaints this year....

I must say I'm disappointed Unbroken was left out....very disappointed...like it should have won best picture because it was the best ask anyone it's great!
Also, no nomination for Miles Teller? ummm ok whatever that's ridiculous.
Eddie Redmayne-you seem like a sweet man but for the love of God cut down on the concealer.
That guy cut Sienna Miller off like 3x at the podium ANNNND bumped into her-what the hec weirdo
Adam Levine's model wife keeps sticking her tongue out at the camera-do you know where you are girl? dumb. models are dumb.
They left out Joan Rivers. HOW DARE YOU
Was Common playing pretend air basketball as he rapped?
Everything is Awesome is not an awesome song-in fact I had to take medicine for a headache after.
no air conditioning? everyone was sweating!

now for the good

LADY GAGA LADY GAGA LADY GAGA
Reese Witherspoon looked stunning as did Jessica Chastain also Marion Cotillard
Neil Patrick Harris you are funny
The set looked beautiful and the lighting made everyone look flawless
Shirley Maclaine's black sparkle jumpsuit ummm HELLO GORGEOUS!
when they showed clips of the foreign films-that bull running inside looked amazing
as did the foreign film about the little boy and his pet chicken-cutie pie
PATRICIA ARQUETTE BRINGING THE FIRE!!!  to quote Meryl "yes! yes!" I was jumping up and down on the couch at home
Julie Andrews is perfect
The speech about everyone having a place in this world even if you feel weird

My top choices this year are as follows:
1) unbroken
2) whiplash
3) Selma
4)grand Budapest hotel
5)wild

THIS WEEK MAN

so how are you?
 I'm cold...real cold girl.
It's been snowing and icing and blowing windy rain around here for days.
(fun story: I didn't fall outside somehow, but my sock was damp coming in so I fell down the stairs inside! That was super fun. I only hurt my pinky finger somehow? clearly by the grace of God because I fell down those stairs.)
The bad news about this week is, in New York you still have to leave the house and go to work no matter what the conditions-this would never happen in Mississippi! I would have been in my bed underneath 50 blankets WITH a cat AND a hot coffee. UGH New York City you crazy place! Elvis and I slip slide slowly to daycare every morning-if someone had a camera you would see I look ridiculous. He walks very slowly, then starts to get bored and tugs his leash to which I screammmm "Whoa! stop! no no no!" and he turns in fear. This happens at least 6x per walk. My poor little dog.
Have I mentioned I'm moving? Because I am. Yeah, that's happening...
Have I packed yet? Oh no! Am I supposed to move in Sunday or Monday? yep.
see... when your acting teacher assigns Shakespeare projects and your work schedules a company wide meeting and a valentines day promotional event and you decide you need to start actively auditioning for managers twice a week at night and your dog needs to be neutered because he is 6 months old and things are getting weird and your computer of five years bites it and you decide to do the most  difficult scene of your life with a girl in your class to grow and you are in the process of cleaning out clothes to send home before the move and you have 6 voicemails you haven't heard ...things get...pushed back.
what? stressed? NO. not at all. I can do this.
I guess, when it rains it pours.

let's be adventurous darling

I am craving a really good road trip.
I miss my car so much...like SO.MUCH. you guys. I am also ready for a holiday!
I have been working non-stop... granted I am in the greatest city in America, but still... lotta work stuff happening. I've decide to start coming up with my trip-a loose manifestation of all the places I want to see this year-fully believing this will all come together somehow. I hope the timing just unfolds and all the right people show up and yeah I get this show on the road!

1) California's Pacific Coast Highway
it is my humble opinion that this highway is one of those places you just have to visit before you die PERIOD
It's gorgeous, open, so incredibly American!
I want to eat in and out burgers and go to the rose bowl flea and stop in windy San Fran for a trolly ride to Janis Joplin's apartment and see a bear in Yosemite and stop in Malibu to see those Kardashians and look at palm trees and stars in LA and sleep on the beach around Monterey and FINALLY finish up with a day spent at Disneyland!
2)Oregon
let's get weird! I want to hike here with Elvis (can't wait to see the look on his face when he is in a forest) and eat voodoo doughnuts and can't wait to run around looking for Edward..wait what..who said that...or maybe just boys with beards and hug a bunch of trees and swim underneath waterfalls

3) Austin
Okay so I definately veered off the trail here, but I've been missing Texas, and Austin is on my list!
I'm excited to eat bbq and MEXCIAN FOOD  and go see a million bands play and ride horses in red cowgirl boots and float the river

4)while the trip is completely out of order... let's tack on the best place in the whole world to finish PARIS, FRANCE-if we have had personal contact at all in the last 5 years then you know Paris is just IT for me. I've never been more comfortable in my own skin anywhere else in my life.
I want to go back ASAP.
Let's eat macaroons, kiss at the top of the tower at night, wear tutus, go shopping, ride in a sportscar, go shopping, look at paintings and old places, scoff at the attitudes those Europeans possess and gawk at how their hair looks amazing filthy and eat everything in sight, and oh yeah, go shopping.

I'm ready.

the sun will come out tomorrow

I am taking back my mornings.

Lately, my hours have been pretty ridiculous...my work schedule changes week to week, but the past two have been consistently packed.
I'm normally rushing out the door to work around 8:45, then getting home around 5:30ish where I immediately start feeding/playing with Elvis, rush him to daycare around 6, then catch the train to get across the city to acting workshops, and finally I pick him up around 10ish, and then we watch a show or two and fall asleep! I know this busy time won't last forever, and I'm trying really hard to come up with more normal days (maybe some where I can eat). However, until this weird schedule is finally resolved I'm taking back my mornings.

This means:
I will get up early to take Elvis on a walk before he is inside all day (even if that means seven a.m.)
I will make breakfast and eat at least one solid meal
I will make time to be still, read, and pray before the day takes off and everything becomes annoying
I will fit in my cleaning and laundry fun before it becomes midnight and I realize there is nothing clean to wear tomorrow

Here is little baby this morning with Rocky Raccoon

I'm off work today and have three hours before acting class WHOO!
we will go back to snuggles now (it is 15 degrees today YIKES!)

cheers 2015

I only have one resolution this year-BE POSITIVE in action, word, and thought.

It is proving to be far more difficult than I expected (I'm a worrier-who knew?!?!... oh, everyone.)
However, tomorrow is another day Scarlett-gotta keep on trying!

p.s. I went to see Whiplash and you should too-
my favorite Miles Teller is UNBELIEVABLE in it!

snow days and the flu

At work the other day I started..well...I guess you would call it wilting? fading?? I thought it was the cold weather just giving me a headache, or the stress of the week weighing on me-nope-
turns out I have the flu! what fun! aren't you jealous of me?!
so today (and the remainder of the weekend) I will be finishing Homeland and reading books in bed with little Elvie.
I shouldn't complain at all, because this is sort of turning into a vacation :) It's kind of fun this sleeping thing! who knew?!
On a brighter note I woke up this morning to a winter wonderland! Here is a very quick snip of the puppies this morning having a ball in the snow-
